Saturday my sister, Beth, and her husband, Rick, arrived after driving 2500 miles from Bellingham, WA. Surprisingly, they were still married and not too dehydrated. Rick found he did not need his Northface jacket much once he left western WA and Beth found the hotels to be quite accommodating in the 100 degree heat. (Tenting only made it two nights.) So Saturday Beth and I went to the John Deere store so she could buy her 3 yr old neighbor boy a t-shirt and I bought Rick a hat. He immediately felt like he fit in!
They had several things on their list to experience and we tried to accommodate. 1) cardinals (sit on the porch and they will come) 2) lightning bugs (take a walk at dusk and the world will light up) 3) thunderstorm (when the rumbles began at 6 am on Sunday I smiled to myself, that we had accomplished the task!) Amazing that we had so much to offer someone from the beautiful NW!
Sunday we went to Muscatine for Beth to show Rick the site of her first apartment and West Middle School where her teaching career began. Rick was a fascinated spectator, as every good husband should be. They travel to Maquoketa on Monday, where they will spend the week, think of the fun!
