The Yellow Birds

by Kevin Powers.

This is THE MUST READ.

So powerful, so gut wrenchingly intense with his prose.

A friend recommended the book and she said every sentence reads like poetry. My first thought was maybe I wouldn't like the book for that reason, but that is exactly why the book is so captivating. Powers has the ability to capture the smallest of moments and loom them large.

Ever since Vietnam I've felt strongly about war (against) discerning that sending men and women to kill has to work such a mental game that how can one really recover. Powers confirms this mind boggling tug of war with such description to make you really and truly understand.

You can't come back the same way you left.

Read it, you'll be enriched by his language, saddened by his story, and better for the knowledge.
